As I am still in the RRC Professional Photography program, I cannot say all the things I have learned because I am not done learning yet. But from what I do know is this course is intense and if you truly have no desire to work hard and you think it is an easy way to get a diploma, this is not the course for you. I have learned what it really feels like to be challenged and find new ways to succeed.
Though, as in any schooling, it can become difficult and frustrating at times, there have been many more positives to override the negatives of stressful schooling. I have learned that I am not a little kid running around with a camera anymore. I have true knowledge and power to create a successful life for myself. Though I am still trying to work on it through my artistic journey I have gained some confidence in myself from modelling for others and receiving powerful feedback on my work. The feedback makes me thrive and want to do better. In high school, I was always the kid who really did not care a lot about my grades. I did well, but I never wanted to challenge myself as much as I love to do now.
My number one advice I would have given to myself 4 months ago would have been to be sociable in the class. My classmates are some of my favourite parts of my days. Being open to their friendships has helped make this course so much more enjoyable. We honestly have fun even on the worst days.
I have gotten to work alongside amazing photographers who I am sure will find their own success. Working with this diverse group of people has improved my skills from not only learning so much from my teachers but from my fellow classmates. Seeing everyone’s styles grow and change with the program truly showed me how different creative minds can think and help one another.
Overall, this course although stressful and made me want to scream, cry, and throw up. I know I am feeling these emotions for a reason. It is because I really do care about my result as an up-and-coming photographer. I hope in the next four months it will keep me as passionate as I feel right at this moment.
